Hello and thank you for visiting our site!
There is a detailed story as to why I began E Nestor Products in the "About Us" section, but it doesn't cover what has happened since. [Spoiler alert: while I have become very competent with a sewing maching, making thousands of masks and dog bandanas, it didn't start out that way!]
My goal was to have a project that supported a cause I deeply believe in, children's literacy. I love making things and decided to focus on ceiling fan pull chains and chandelier charms. When I first began, I was selling a few items a month, nothing to write home about.
When Covid errupted, I began getting emails asking people who were able, to begin making masks. The world was desperate for masks! My mom was a great seamstress and tried to teach me to sew, but I was never interested. However, when these pleas for mask makers were coming in, I thought, "I can do that" and ordered a sewing machine.
Fabric was very difficult to get and my sewing machine arrived about three weeks before my back-ordered fabric. I was terrified of that thing and it sat in my garage unopened.
The day my fabric arrived I couldn't put it off any longer. I knew nothing and watched a lot of online tutorials. My first masks weren't great, but I was determined to improve. I finally felt competent enough to list some on my website but I was unprepared for what happened next.
I will never forget that night. I had listed a few masks earlier that day. It was Sat., April 25 and my husband and I were home watching a movie. All of a sudden, my phone started blowing up. Order after order was coming in and I was just stunned and terrified! A good thing was happening but it honestly didn't feel good! Was I going to be able to pull this off?!
The orders didn't stop...I began getting up at 5:00 am and working until 9:00 pm almost every single day.
The really amazing thing is that I have been able to donate a significant amount to Books for Kids. To date, thanks to all my wonderful customers, over $2,300 has been donated!
My sewing machine doesn't scare me anymore and we've become quite good friends. I've sewn thousands of masks and dog bandanas. It's funny how one's life can change course in an instant. Covid has created so much sadness and lots of challenges for the whole world, but I really believe that no matter how bad a situation is, good can be found too if you look hard enough.
